KEN CAMPBELL is that actor with the bushy eyebrows who looks as though he has high blood pressure. Yours will probably rise to match if you watch too much of Reality on the Rocks (Channel 4, Sundays), which is Campbell’s investigation into the big bang and aftermath. He wants to be a television Candide, but his purposely stupid questions just sound, well, stupid. The locations are great, the scientists tolerant (especially Stephen Hawking). But the three-part series only succeeds in showing that you need to be fluent in maths to understand cosmology – or else be a genius with metaphor and simile. Actors’ efforts aside, English just isn’t enough. Perhaps the one-man stage shows were funnier. This just seems annoying.
