Almost 28 per cent of the eggs laid by loggerhead turtles
in nesting sites between Bundaberg and Agnes Waters in southeast Queensland are
being eaten by foxes, according to a study funded by the Sea World Research and
Rescue Foundation. Goannas account for another 6 per cent, while 9 per cent
drown in high tides. 鈥淲e always knew that foxes caused many hatchling losses,鈥�
said Stephanie Lemmfrom the University of Queensland. 鈥淭his is the first
time we鈥檝e been able to establish an accurate figure.鈥�
