Angkor, Babylon and Great Zimbabwe have the power to astound. So what a
pity Weidenfeld & Nicolson did not put more effort into editor Paul Bahn’s
Lost Cities picture book. Archive photos, some of poor quality, accompany the
few hundred words devoted to each of 50 abandoned cities around the world. Had
the text been linked to maps or even a few commissioned photographs, this volume
might have been worth its £25 ticket. Published by University of Florida
Press, ISBN 0297822659.
