Realistic computerised heads that will act as the public face of websites are
being developed by NASA and Digital Personnel of Plant City, Florida. The heads
are intended to talk to customers in much the same way that a receptionist
would. Their speech will be built up from fragments of audio recordings, ranging
from entire expressions to phonemes. Similarly, fragments of video will be used
to generate realistic head movements. The video and speech will be brought
together to mimic human reactions.
