Workers who suspect they have been exposed to toxic substances will soon be
able to find out instantly if they are in danger, by blowing into a breath
analyser developed at the US Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National
Laboratory. The device contains a commercial mass spectrometer and uses a
mathematical model of how chemicals move through the body to calculate the dose
received and the resulting health risk.
