Burglars will make a hasty departure from your home if the alarm invented by
Gillrange, a company in Boston, Lincolnshire, works as intended (GB 2 324 636).
An infrared sensor detects the body heat of anyone entering a room. The device
then waits a few seconds, to give rightful residents time to turn it off. If
they don鈥檛, it triggers a smoke generator of the kind used in stage shows,
filling the room with a dense fog within a few seconds. The inventor suggests
that an irritant such as cinnamic acid is added 鈥渢o ensure that the intruder鈥檚
departure is as rapid as possible鈥.
