Deck chairs can collapse when you move quickly, making the back rest bar jump
out of its retaining notches. The solution, says Habitat, the furnishings group,
is a new kind of notch (GB 2 332 856). The rear legs of the deck chair have a
series of mushroom-shaped brackets. These form a series of slots, with hooks at
each end. When the crossbar is pushed into the gap between the mushrooms, it
slides down under the hook. If a person moves suddenly so that the crossbar
slides up, it has nowhere to go, because it is stopped by the hook of the next
mushroom. The only way to adjust the chair is to position the crossbar midway
between the mushrooms then pull it upwards and out.
