Paul Topen of West Inchture, Perthshire, is patenting a neat idea for making
table lamps catch the eye (GB 2 331 799). The body of the lamp is a metal
cylinder containing a light bulb that beams upwards. A fan underneath the bulb
blasts air over fins around the bulb to create a non-turbulent stream of air. A
light polystyrene ball coated with reflective material hovers in the air flow
above the cylinder, shining in the light to illuminate the room with changing
patterns or advertising slogans.
