Toothbrushes don’t always remove plaque from inaccessible areas at the back
of the teeth. So Paul Welfle of Mobberley, Cheshire, wants to enlist the help of
the tongue, which is already designed to reach parts that brushes can’t (GB 2
327 339). A light brush with strong pointed filaments is secured to the top of a
concave cup shaped to fit the tip of the tongue. Suction holds the brush on the
tongue so that users can clean the back of their teeth, from behind. Welfle
suggests the brush should come with a nylon tethering line so that it can be
retrieved if accidentally swallowed.
