Fuji Photo Film in Japan is patenting a novel way of getting prints from a
digital camera. The proposal builds on the instant picture film that Fuji makes
for its Polaroid-style instant cameras. The digital camera shoots and stores a
picture in its memory. A printing head that contains red, green and blue light
sources then passes over the instant film, exposing it in the pattern of the
digital image. The exposed film passes between rollers, which rupture a pod of
developer and spread it evenly across the film (WO 99/21055).
