The fate of the satellite phone company Iridium appears to be sealed now it
has declared bankruptcy, having defaulted on more than $1.55 billion in
loans. Requiring 66 low Earth orbit satellites, the system was a decade in the
making. Iridium has struggled to draw in customers since its launch last
November, but says that the service will be maintained for existing users.
