Ebola panic gripped Germany last week when cameraman Olaf Ullmann was placed
under armed guard in an isolation ward in Berlin after returning from the
C么te d鈥橧voire with fever and bleeding. Ullmann died but it transpired that
he had yellow fever not Ebola. Anyone going to the C么te d鈥橧voire is
obliged to have a yellow fever vaccination but Johanna l鈥橝ge-Stehr of the Robert
Koch Institute in Berlin says it doesn鈥檛 appear on Ullmann鈥檚 vaccination
certificate. Passengers on Ullmann鈥檚 flight are not at risk, as yellow fever is
spread only by mosquitoes.
Yellow fever is re-emerging in Africa, warns the WHO, as people, fewer of
whom are vaccinated, move into forests where the virus is endemic.
