Careful with that deodorant: you could end up with cosmic armpits. A bizarre
fragrance that smells of a meteorite has been developed by perfumers at ICI鈥檚
Quest International division in Ashford, Kent. Called Cyba, the 鈥渇uturistic,
atmospheric鈥 fragrance was developed purely to show that the company can create
just about any 鈥渙ff-the-wall鈥 pong that might be demanded, says spokeswoman
Linda Harman. Les Small, the company鈥檚 senior perfumer, began by analysing the
smell of a chunk of meteorite known as a carbonaceous chondrite, the most common
kind of meteorite. He has created a fragrance variously described as
鈥渟ulphurous, smoky, like gunpowder, metallic鈥. Don鈥檛 all rush at once.
