Takasago Corporation of Tokyo thinks the way to stop faeces smelling so
much—in both pets and people—is to eat extracts of various herbs and
foods, including coffee (EP 979 612). Fresh coffee beans were roasted, milled
and sprayed on beef-flavoured pet food. Other ingredients included rosemary,
sunflower seeds, grape seeds, apple and carrot leaves. When this was fed to
beagles, their faeces contained fewer smelly gases such as hydrogen sulphide,
says Takasago. The company doesn’t disclose if the caffeine-dosed mutts got much
sleep. It then tested a mix of coffee bean extract on people who had eaten
garlic-seasoned steak. The result? “A highly remarkable deodorising effect.â€
