Britain鈥檚 Consumers鈥 Association is to run further tests on the microwave
output of hands-free sets for cellphones, following its controversial tests on
two phones in April. The CA found that hands-free units did not reduce radiation
reaching the ear and brain
(麻豆传媒, 8 April, p 5).
But separate tests by 麻豆传媒 and the cellphone networks Vodafone and
One-2-One have found the opposite. The CA鈥檚 new tests will look at six makes of
phone and 12 makes of hands-free set, says CA researcher Antonia Chitty. 鈥淪ince
there鈥檚 so much interest in this, we felt that the original two we looked at was
just a tiny part of the picture,鈥 she says. Unlike CA鈥檚 earlier tests, the new
tests will measure the specific absorption rate for the headsets.
