Ever seen an alien at a cash machine? NCR has. According to the company,
which makes ATMs, fraudsters are using 鈥渁lien devices鈥 to steal cash and credit
card details. The alien is often a dummy keypad and card slot, sculpted to blend
with the original machine itself, but hiding electronics that record the card
numbers and PINs that users key in. To combat this fraud, NCR proposes hiding a
tiny video camera in the panel above the keypad (GB 2351585). The camera
continually takes pictures of the keyboard鈥檚 appearance and compares them with a
reference image. Any difference triggers an alarm, warning the bank of an alien
invasion.
