Copycat virus writers have made a second, more malicious version of the
much-hyped Code Red computer worm. The original worm was designed to overwrite
Web pages on a host machine and bombard the White House website with traffic,
but it didn’t spread far. Experts say the new worm, released on Saturday 4
August, is also unlikely to get far. But it could inflict more damage because it
installs a program that gives an outside user complete control over the system.
This could allow a hacker to delete files on a computer.
