Dodo: From extinction to icon by Errol Fuller, Collins, 拢16.99, ISBN 0007145721 Reviewed by Fred Pearce
Errol Fuller鈥檚 books on extinct birds are not proper narratives so much as glorious anthologies of facts, anecdotes, pictures and imaginings. Dodo: From extinction to icon is one such miscellany, made all the better by his early acknowledgement that 鈥渢he known and certain facts concerning the living dodo could be squeezed into a few paragraphs鈥.
Most dodo literature is, Fuller says, 鈥減oorly written, badly conceived and contradictory鈥; many drawings were made by the artistically and anatomically clueless. So this is largely the story of the myth of the dodo from a failed pigeon to an icon of extinction. Magical.
