NASA fixes leak on space shuttle Endeavour

A leak in the shuttle's cabin has been fixed after a faulty valve was replaced, but the work has delayed the shuttle's planned launch by a day

A leak in the space shuttle Endeavour’s cabin has been fixed after a faulty valve was replaced, but the work has delayed the shuttle’s planned launch by a day, to Wednesday.

The leak was detected on Sunday and on Wednesday its source was pinpointed as one of two pressure-relief valves designed to keep the crew cabin from becoming over-pressurised.

Workers replaced the valve with another from the shuttle Atlantis on Thursday, then performed a test to check the leak. ā€œWe had another crew cabin leak check and it went fine. I think that problem’s behind us,ā€ NASA spokesperson George Diller told Ā鶹“«Ć½.

But the fix put pressure on NASA’s preparations for launch: ā€œBetween having to work that problem, and the weather hasn’t been good to us at all, it’s tightened up the schedule,ā€ he said.

Now, the shuttle Endeavour is slated to blast off from Florida’s Kennedy Space Center for the International Space Station on Wednesday, a day later than planned. The official countdown to the launch will also be postponed a day, to Sunday, said a NASA spokeswoman.
