Moral psychologist has come up with some clever ways to probe our feelings about what is right and wrong.
One question he’s investigated is why we make strong moral judgements about actions which are disgusting or disrespectful, but which actually cause no harm.
Here are some of the (fictional) moral dilemmas that Haidt has used in his research. Try them out – and we’d like you to tell us your responses in the comments. Watch out for the immediate gut reaction you feel, as well as your thought-out justification you may make later – a distinction that is another of Haidt’s discoveries.
