Our Earth is 45 million centuries old, but this is the first century in which a single species can determine the fate of the entire biosphere. At Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Live next month, the Astronomer Royal will be exploring how technology could take us to a post-human era.

In his talk, Rees will address themes from his latest book On the future: prospects for humanity, including the likely impact of the world’s population growing to as many as 11 billion people, and the dangers posed by biotechnology and advanced artificial intelligence. In exploring these, he will call for international guidelines to promote the maximum benefits of new technologies, while minimising their potentially catastrophic risks.
