Â鶹´«Ã½ recommends: Children of Memory and They Cloned Tyrone

They Cloned Tyrone - BTS - John Boyega as Fontaine on the set of They Cloned Tyrone. Cr. Parrish Lewis/Netflix ?? 2023.

I didn’t know there was a third book in Adrian Tchaikovsky’s fantastic Children of Time series until I was looking it up to recommend to a friend. But it turns out came out last year, so I dived right in. The trilogy is set in the distant future, when humans have spread throughout the universe, finding (and creating) other sentient species as they go. There are spiders with astonishing humanity, octopuses who communicate through colours rippling over their skin and all sorts of adventures.

I also recently watched on Netflix – it is a sci-fi take on the blaxploitation genre, featuring Jamie Foxx in his element, plus John Boyega (pictured above) and Teyonah Parris showing off their range. Describing it too much would probably spoil it, so suffice to say it is a thriller about cloning and mind control, with a heavy undertone of allegory. It is beautifully shot, fast-paced and bolstered by some really great performances.
