Our photo competition theme for August is words.

.

As we learn more about language and the way that it evolved, the notion of words as little more than collections of random sounds is being challenged. Yet however these building blocks of communication have been shaped and sculpted with time, in the era of Twitter and Facebook we are leaving more of a verbal record than ever before. Whether you’re a Scrabble-loving word nerd, a chattering extrovert or simply a connoisseur of finely shaped script, send us images that capture your way with words.

The best entry will win a Â鶹´«Ã½ goodie bag: a laptop bag that comes with a travelling cup and a set of Â鶹´«Ã½ books.

A gallery of entries will appear here.

The competition will close on 31 August and the winner will be announced in early September. and head here for full terms and conditions.
