Nuclear defects

17 November 1990

The French electricity board EDF (Electricite de France) has revealed
that faulty equipment has now been discovered in two-thirds of French nuclear
power stations.

Its latest report says that last month half the 900-megawatt pressurised
water reactors were found to have defective areas on the edges of primary
circuit water filters.

An EDF spokesman said the problem was ‘minor’ and would be dealt with
by December.

Two months ago, EDF revealed that all of its 1300-MW PWRs had similar
defects.
