AIDS inquiry

12 December 1992

A French parliamentary committee convened to examine what has been discovered
about transmission of the AIDS virus over the past decade sat for the first
time last week. The committee was created after the trial of leading medical
officials for allowing HIV-contaminated Factor 8 to be used by haemophiliacs.

Luc Montagnier of the Pasteur Institute, the co-discoverer of the AIDS
virus, said in a statement to the committee that government officials and
politicians should take responsibility for policy errors leading to the
scandal.
