Sciencefest

25 September 1993

The European Commission has declared 22 to 26 November European Week
for Scientific Culture. The aim, according to Antonio Ruberti, the commissioner
for research, ‘is to make European citizens and decision-makers more aware
of the major issues of scientific culture and scientific education’. It
is also to demonstrate scientific cooperation in Europe.

Events will include a film festival of science fiction films ‘before
and after the discovery of DNA’, in Italy, an overnight camp at the Science
Museum in London for children from all over Europe, science contests in
newspapers, and a ‘scientific ballet’ organised by CERN, the centre for
particle physics near Geneva.
