The Unofficial X-Files Companion by N. E. Genge (Macmillan, £9.99, ISBN 0 336 65441 2) is a companion to one of the most phenomenal SF series of all time. If you’ve been under a rock for the past year, then you won’t know about the TV exploits of FBI special agents Scully and Mulder. The guide to the first and second seasons is not particularly good if you need the details of a missed episode. But, if you would like to look deeper at an issue, then this is the thing for you. X-philes will find respite in the quizzes to find whether you are a true X-phile or if you’re totally out of the loop. It’s the best book I’ve found on the series, but I imagine many would prefer the fiction to the facts.
