FOOD, glorious food, where would we be without it? A balanced diet supplies us with a mixture of energy-rich fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Chewing food physically breaks it up into pieces and chemical processes dismantle it further into smaller fats, sugars and amino acids. These molecules are absorbed into the bloodstream and transported to cells, where they undergo a series of chemical reactions that are collectively called metabolism.
