Fossils are more than just dinosaurs as visitors to the American Museum of
Natural History, New York, can discover now that all its fossil exhibits have
reopened. The 8 June opening of the Hall of Vertebrate Origins completed an
ambitious renovation project. Together with the dinosaur and fossil mammal halls
that reopened earlier, the new exhibits tell how vertebrates evolved. Fish run
from the small to the fearsome, including a model of the 5-metre razor-jawed
Dunkleosteus. The new show also includes amphibians and a host of non-dinosaur
reptiles that swam, flew or walked. Set in a restored 1877 hall, the exhibit
includes fossils, reconstructions and interactive computer displays.
