Nicely produced, X-Rays: The First Hundred Years (Wiley, £34.95, ISBN 0
471 96502 2) is edited by Alan Michette and Slawka Pfauntsch, who last year
organised a seminar to celebrate the centenary of Roentgen’s discovery of the
rays. This book is based on the talks given then. Sadly it does not always
succeed in keeping things simple for nonexperts, who may have little idea of the
scope and value of X-rays in the modern world.
