Between Bench and Bedside is a racy title for Illana Löwy’s account of
research into an anticancer drug, interleukin-2. Published by Harvard University
Press (£26.50, ISBN 0 674 06809 2), it promises more for the ordinary
reader than it delivers. Although it skips between laboratories all over the
world and explores the medical and human problems thrown up by the work, it will
be hard reading for any but those with a special interest.
