High school students in New Zealand will soon be using a
multimedia CD-ROM produced at the University of New South Wales to learn
Japanese. The NZ Ministry of Education has purchased 500 copies of the CD-ROM,
Japan Album, for distribution to schools. The CD-ROM was developed by the
university’s Unisearch Multimedia in conjunction with the Department of School
Education in NSW and the Japan Foundation. The Japan Album, with a vocabulary of
1200 words, runs on multimedia PCs and Macintosh computers. More information is
