A refrigerated lorry that uses solar power to keep food cold is being tested
by the supermarket Sainsbury’s and the Sustainable Energy Research Group at
Southampton University. Photovoltaic panels line the trailer’s roof, powering
the refrigeration unit during the day and charging a battery that takes over at
night. Early trials suggest it may cut the noise and exhaust pollution that
comes from conventional diesel-powered units.
