A miniature shock absorber powered by torch batteries could help to smooth
the path of mountain bike riders. The device uses a fluid that changes its
viscosity when a voltage is applied to it. Advanced Fluid Systems, a
London-based company, has developed a device that uses a small volume of fluid
and works for up to three hours on two 9-volt batteries.
