Many TV stations play tricks to make advertisements sound louder than
programmes. But the Automatic TV Sound Regulator made by Home Automation Systems
of Costa Mesa, California, can foil them. The $50 gadget connects between
a TV or VCR and an audio amplifier. It monitors the TV sound signal and lowers
it when commercials exceed a comfortable threshold.
