Covering all angles

By Barry Fox

Samsung of Korea has invented a video recorder that lets a TV station record
a sports event from several angles, with full surround-sound, and put them on
one tape. This leaves the producer free to decide which view to transmit without
juggling signals from multiple decks (EP 845 902/903). In a football match,
cameras with several microphones could be placed at the back of each goal, and
above to give a bird’s eye view. Each picks up a surround-sound perspective to
match the picture. All camera signals are converted into digital code, and the
sound and picture data are interleaved into a single stream, which is recorded
on tape or disc.
