A genetic engineering method dubbed “terminator technology” that produces
plants with sterile seeds won’t be used by the world’s largest network of
agricultural research centres. At a meeting in Washington DC, the Consultative
Group on International Agricultural Research agreed that plant breeders in its
16 laboratories will not use “any genetic systems designed to prevent
germination”.
