As the European Union was lifting its ban on the export of Britain’s beef,
the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia this week announced it would test
5000 cattle in slaughterhouses for the BSE prion. Germany insists it is
BSE-free. But Bärbel Höhn, the state’s agriculture minister, believes
testing should be implemented across the EU.
