Underwater parking

By Barry Fox

5 December 1998

Waterside beauty spots such as the Alpine lakes attract thousands of
motorists who arrive to enjoy the view, then promptly spoil it by parking there.
Martini Alfredo of Como in Italy and Swiss companies Sogam and Studio
d’Ingegneria Civile Passera & Pedretti may have a solution (EP 863 279).

The companies are applying for a patent on a submerged multistorey car park
that would be anchored by a series of cables to the bottom of the lake.
Motorists would drive down a ramp into the structure. Its flat top could be used
as a club house or may provide moorings for boats.
