Grand idea

Linking a pair of pianos together produces a richer sound, say Bedii and Elif
Aran of Ankara, Turkey. They have filed a British patent application in which
two grand pianos are “twinned” by a mechanical bridge which links their sound
boards (GB 2 322 467). As one piano is played, the twinned piano resonates in
sympathy. This, say the inventors, “intensifies the sonority more than twofold”.
