People who fear they might have inherited a high risk of ovarian or breast
cancer no longer need wait for an assessment by a geneticist. Instead, their own
doctor can use a computer program to work out their risk of contracting these
cancers, based on their family history. Developed by the Imperial Cancer
Research Fund in London, the Risk Assessment in Genetics expert system builds a
family tree for the patient and uses it to establish whether they have a low,
moderate or high risk.
