Short straw

4 September 1999

DOCTORS need to be more aware that short parents do not always have short
children.

A child’s height usually depends on its parents, but short stature can also

colleagues warn that doctors could miss these signs if they always assume that
short stature is inherited (Archives of Disease in Childhood, vol 81, p
257).
