Twinkle toes

By Barry Fox

25 September 1999

Gregory Christiansen of Paradise, South Australia, is patenting (WO 99/21453)
an alternative to painting fingernails or toenails in exotic colours. He
envisages a small capsule shaped like a nail that you glue to your own set. The
capsule contains chemicals that react and luminesce when mixed. You bring the
luminescent nail to life by pressing the surface. This fractures a phial of
catalyst, triggering the light-producing reaction. The effect in a darkened
night club is “spectacular”, says the inventor.
