Careful with that deodorant: you could end up with cosmic armpits. A bizarre
fragrance that smells of a meteorite has been developed by perfumers at ICI’s
Quest International division in Ashford, Kent. Called Cyba, the “futuristic,
atmospheric” fragrance was developed purely to show that the company can create
just about any “off-the-wall” pong that might be demanded, says spokeswoman
Linda Harman. Les Small, the company’s senior perfumer, began by analysing the
smell of a chunk of meteorite known as a carbonaceous chondrite, the most common
kind of meteorite. He has created a fragrance variously described as
“sulphurous, smoky, like gunpowder, metallic”. Don’t all rush at once.…
