Want to listen to MP3 music files on your existing hi-fi or stereo? SmartDisk
of Naples, Florida, has the answer in the form of a dummy audio cassette it
calls FlashTrax. It has a slot in the side that takes flash memory cards, on
which you store MP3 tracks downloaded from the Internet. The dummy cassette
contains a chip that decodes the digitised music and generates a fluctuating
magnetic field that can be read by the recorder’s tape head. FlashTrax contains
its own rechargeable batteries and should work equally well in personal stereos,
boom boxes and car cassette players.
