This fortnight sees a good crop of books out in paperback. Get a clear view
of vision in all its complexity from cognitive scientist Donald Hoffman in
Visual Intelligence (W. W. Norton, £12.95, ISBN 0393319679). New
Scientist’s reviewers also liked the following three published by Harvard.
“Excellent, erudite and interesting” is how Roger Newton’s The Truth of
Science: Physical Theories and Reality (£10.50, ISBN 0674001818) was
described. Or try Lee Dugatin’s Cheating Monkeys and Citizen Bees
(£9.50, ISBN 0674001672) for “a new way of thinking about human
society”.
