Ride the Net

By Barry Fox

IBM wants companies to use the Internet to promote car-sharing (GB 2 341
708). A company puts up a map of an area on its server, so that employees can
enter any car journeys they have to make. Clicking on the point of departure and
the destination creates a unique Web address. Anyone wanting a ride creates an
address describing their own requirements. If there is a close match, along all
or part of the route, drivers and passengers agree a rendezvous.
