Taiwan-based China Airlines will no longer carry non-human primates for
research labs in the US. The airline, which was the second largest carrier of
the animals after Air France, responded to a campaign against international
trade in primates for experimental use. The campaign, by the British Union for
the Abolition of Vivisection and US Animal Protection Institute, highlighted
inhumane transport conditions which often lead to illness or death in the
animals. “We are extremely pleased and expect to see more of the same from other
airlines,” says Lawrence Carter-Long of the API.
