Dogs are a bunch of clever-clogs

MAN’S best friend is smarter than many people like to think, say researchers
in Germany. Although dogs can’t quite read our minds, they seem to know what we
can see.

Josep Call and his colleagues at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary
Anthropology in Leipzig tested dogs to see if they behave differently when they
are being watched. Researchers placed treats on the floor in front of a number
of dogs in turn, and forbade each animal to eat the food. As long as the person
