Bulky projection TVs are about to get a lot thinner, thanks to a new
technology from RCA. At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week,
RCA previewed a back-projection TV that’s half the thickness of today’s sets.
Instead of a bunch of cathode ray tubes lit by red, green and blue bulbs, the
heart of the projector is a “light engine” made from three LCDs glued to the
faces of a glass prism. The prism splits white light into red, green and blue
